Joan has written and published several books reflecting various chapters in her interesting life. This one, however is the first of her writings to be published on the Internet. What makes the story so fascinating, in my view, is that it shows Africa as it was, not seen through the trained eyes of a historian or the coloured glasses of a politician but through the eyes of a young bride who had come to Africa to join and marry her husband-to-be.
The world has changed a lot since Joan went to Africa and it is her down-to-earth observations that take us back to the Africa as it was then.
